Graphic designer David Spengelar presents to us a blog that shows how one talented hipster can convert any brands identity to look cool. Through the use of font, icons and nostalgic symbols he brings large corperations back to life. How he makes Fedex and Gillete look cool is beyond me, inspirational stuff - definitely one to make note of.

lego dinosaur
Whilst talking to my little brother on Skype recently he insisted on showing me his Lego masterpieces. Which took me back to the good old days, where you could create almost anything out of Lego and be entertained for hours. I saw these adverts and thought how well Lego have understood their consumer. I really love the simplicity of their concept and the playful executions. If anything it made me realise how much I miss Lego!

tie dye

It’s that time of year when that trend that you hate to love is back; tie dye. With summer soon on its way expect to see a mixture of pastel tones and vibrant shades soaked onto every item of clothing imaginable. Whether its shorts, blouses or fishtail plaits, I cant help but want to get involved in some old school tie dying.

introduce yourself
Whilst doing work on my current university project, it seems that I’m much more aware of viral videos that are released. You might have heard about the Starbucks ‘introduce yourself’ campaign this week, customers were asked to introduce themselves on the 14th of March to receive a free latte. Unfortunately for me, I hate lattes, but I did think it is a really great way to re-engage with their customers in a personal way. What I like most about the idea, is the viral supporting the campaign. I really love the way they have executed the idea by drawing on the coffee cups and creating a video animation that grabs your attention for a minute. Nicely done Starbucks.

KLM Surprise
KLM surprise is a campaign that uses the power of social networking sites Twitter and Foursquare, to connect and entertain their consumers. The idea was that every passenger that used twitter or foursquare to post about travelling with KLM received a ‘surprise’. A team of KLM staff, researched the passenger’s online profiles, bought them a suitable gift and personally delivered it to them whilst they were in the waiting to travel. For example one woman travelling to Rome received a Nike+ band as she had mentioned on profile that she was a sporty person. On twitter alone, KLM generated more than 1,000,000 impressions, which is a pretty good outcome to such a simple idea.
“Doing something that creates a real smile on someone’s face, is much cooler than attaching a smiley face” - KLM

Edgar Mueller
When I first saw the work of Edward Muellar, I couldn’t believe that he actually paints such incredible 3D street art. He uses his knowledge and technique to create amazing optical illusions, from pouring waterfalls to melting ice caps; his imagination is unreal. The German born artist has been described as "one of the world's top 3-D illusionist street painters” and has broken several world records.
"I'm not a record hunter, but because I want to change public areas into a different look, to look different from daily life I have to go huge. If I want to change a street, then I have to cover the whole street, so that's the reason my paintings are so big."
