Meet the Superhumans

Although many people living in London are dreading it, I’m quite looking forward to the start of the Olympics, in particular the Paralympics. Every time I turn on the TV I seem to catch same advert supporting the Paralympics ‘Meet the Superhumans’ campaign and each time it grabs my attention. I admire the way Channel 4 have portrayed the athletes and their approach to telling their stories. To me I feel a lot more interested and intrigued to watch the Parlalympics after the release of the campaign, and the idea of watching the ‘superhumans’. Director Tom Tagholm said, "We knew we had to make some noise. We knew we had to add some edge and grit and attitude.” The campaign has been a huge success, with critics saying ‘its put other Olympics adverts to shame’ and I think I have to agree.

If I liked coffee I would be even more impressed than I already am with Zipwhip’s new text enabled espresso machine. Exclusivley for Zipwhip’s offices only, the machine allows you to text your choice of coffee and by the time you get to work your coffee is made. Pretty impressive, but it doesn’t stop there, it then prints out the last three digits of your mobile number in edible ink to ensure you collect the right drink. I have to admit I had never even heard of Zipwhip before I saw this video, but its definitely a good way to get themselves noticed, and with over 12,000 views already they're not doing a bad job.

my trip to berlin.

 

Back from my university trip to Berlin and I’m straight back into my never-ending workload. Had to

post about Berlin and what a fantastic city it is. Although it consisted of a ridiculous amount of walking which isn’t usually my kinda thing, it was well worth it. I have to say, in terms of our course I’m not sure how much Berlin had to offer, in terms of a holiday it was exactly what I needed. Amazing dinners, stunning sites and hilarious moments made the trip. Would definitely recommend it for its alternative street art and nightlife however much to my surprise I didn’t manage to snap many stylish people. With so much to see and do, six days just didn’t seem enough.

New year, new goals

With the start of 2012 finally here, its time for me to think about my goals for the year. 

Yes as sad as that may sound, these past three months have flown by and I want to make the most of this next year. With the obvious, loose weight and keep on top of work goals, something I'd really like to progress in is photography. I really enjoy doing it when I have time, I just don't do it enough. I recently bought the publication Frankie, an independent Australian  magazine that covers art, photography, fashion, craft and design. The whole feel to the magazine is refreshing, so I visited their on line website which is where I found this really sweet photo. Jessie Alymore explains how to make shapes in the areas of your photos that are out of focus. Its things like this that make me want to play around with my camera more and start producing my own style of photography. First on my to do list for 2012 is to join a photography class.

Sketch.

Visiting London later this week, I am trying to do a brief plan of what I want to do

when I get there as keen as that may be. We were briefed on our visit and given a list of restaurants, shops and bars that were worth visiting. One that stood out to me was Sketch, a place for food, art and music located in an 18th century building in Mayfair.With its stunning lecture rooms, Swarovski encrusted woodland bars and an ever changing video restaurant, Sketch looks amazing. This is one of the many places I insist on going to, along with LNCC, Dazed and Confused Exhibition and Bubbleolegy.

Camden Town

After reviewing the new online fashion label Three Floor at the weekend, I decided to venture around London and made it to Camden. Despite the fact my feet were killing, I wondered the streets and instantly fell in love with it. From shoes merging out of buildings to amazing street art, Camden was the definition of cool. Quirky stalls with stunning pieces of jewellery, art and vintage clothing made it so hard for me not to spend money, I cannot wait to go back in a few weeks and make some purchases. I was recently introduced to Pintrest, an online pin board where you can catalog and share 

things you like. I wasn quite sure what to do on the site, but as you explore through the site, you 

just find the most random invetions. It is actually quite inspirational, here are some of the things

unbelievable.

 How anazing are these self portraits by Natsumi Hayashi? With no use of photoshop, the Tokyo

teenager takes hundreds of photos of herself jumping until she captures a shot that looks like

she is levitating. I have never seen anything like it, to be able to look so natural whilst jumping

mid air is unbelievable.

life as an intern.

Its been a long week of getting up at six and not coming home till after seven

but the work expirience I'm gaining makes it worth while. This week has gone quite

quickly probably due to the four day week, but it felt like it has flewn past. Meetings,

trend research, fittings and reviews have taken up my week barely leaving me a minute

alone but when I did have some free time on thursday afternoon, I sat in on a photoshoot

 for the Republic website. It was actually quite interesting to watch as you can imagine!

Crafted

Last weekend whilst I was taking my street style photos, I stopped a man, stylish,

well presented and as it happened someone who was about to help me out a lot.

After taking his photo, he asked wether I was looking for work experience which of

course I am, he then went on to tell me he was the head of the menswear buying department

 at Republic. A week later I found myself working in the Leeds Head Office as a buying 

assistant. I can not belive my luck, definatly not something that happens every day!

I have done 2 days so far, and I am really enjoying such a great oppurtunity. I have agreed

to a three week placement helping the buying team for the mens wear brand Crafted that is

featured at Republic. Yesterday I was asked to create two Autumn/Winter looks to be worn

on the manequins for the VM window. Aswell as sitting in on a suppliers meeting, looking at

 new products that are brought to the brand. Today was fittings day, where a Crafted model

tries on stock sent from suppliers, I was asked to make notes on any adjusments and then pass

them on. It was hard staring at a model for an hour but somebody has to do it!

Ibiza rocks.

Back from Ibiza and it was amazing! From meeting Dizzee Rascal,

 Annie Mac and watcing Tinnie Tempah perform from our stage view

 it was the holiday I will definatly remember.



A week in the office.

I started my first week of work expirience at the The Yorkshire Haven, a breast cancer support center. My role is to help organise a fashion show which The Haven are hosting on the 1st of august. So far, I have had to ogranise meetings, speak to clients and source prizes for a raffle. I have also been contactiong various fashion brands in hope they will provide clothes for the fashion show. Luckily for me I do have the gift of the gab, and I have managed to get LK Bennet on board, Oasis involved and found prizes worth upto £100 for free. It takes alot of emailing and calling but my first week has been quite successful.

As well as the fashion show the Haven have recently launched a High Heel-a-thon, asking people to walk a mile in their heels. Ambassador Kimberly Walsh from Girls Aloud, joined the Haven last year, but unfortantly cant attend this time....(damn, was so close to meeting her!)

IBIZA

In less then a week I will be arriving in IBIZA.

Staying at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, hot sun and a holiday with the girls is exactly 

what I need right now. We plan on going to all the biggest clubs, watching the sunset go down 

and getting that killer tan. So in preparation, I rummaged through my wardrobe trying to find
 Ibiza appropriate outfits and decided I needed more things. Here are a few of the items that will be
 packed in my suitcase ready to hit the Ibiza streets.

Take me back.

Everytime I visit I feel like its a whole new place. The buildings seem higher, the views feel even more breathtaking and the list of the things to do is never ending. Its a place that can mesmorise you in a second and being there for 10 days took my mind off everything.
